Was Judas a fallen Believer?

John 6:63: “‘But there are some of you who do not believe.’ For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.

This seems to show that Judas was never a believer. Did Judas ever take part in the ministry? Yes. Did he perform miracles, during the ministry? There is no known account where he specifically performed a miracle, but he was among the disciples who did perform miracles.

John 6:70: “Jesus answered them, ‘Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?

One member of The Society of Evangelical Arminians: “It appears that Jesus used Judas as part of the twelve but knew he was a devil from the get go. How could Judas be saved, yet have Jesus consider him a devil?” (SEA)

Luke 8:13: “‘Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.”

One member of The Society of Evangelical Arminians: “Notice ‘these have no root’ in the verse. Further, it says, ‘they believe for a while and in time of testing fall away.’ Having no root, to me, says they probably never believed. They walked around being deceived but when it came to having real faith, it wasn’t present, which is precisely what could have been the case with Judas.” (SEA)

For the sake of balance, the following article presents a compelling argument that Judas may very well have been a fallen believer: A Character Study.
